Brittany 2012 : Brittany 12_07 : Concarneau

The view as we arrived near the port. The trick now was to find a parking place. Concarneau has made its living from the fishing industry for hundreds of years and the town remains an important centre: more than 100,000 tonnes of tuna are caught each year by Concarneau-based boats.

In St. Margaret's Bay here, the tuna are kept in pens and fed until they are OMG size and then sent to Japan under rifle guard. We used to go down to watch them about a 1/4 km from our place. Korean fishermen who kept to themselves in their own fish plant down the road. Eerie.

I was just thinking about how amazing was the construction of those stone battlements that they have survived against the sea all these years.
