Brittany 2012 : Brittany 12_08 : Gavres Beach

As you know by now, Port Louis and Gavres sit opposite each other across the short strait that encloses the Petite Mer De Gavres. Getting to Gavres by ferry is easy. Getting there by car is a long drive around the "little sea". Gavres sits at the end of a long, sandy spit. Lenghty beaches line the Atlantic side of this elongated dune. The geography attracted the navy to set up a naval firing range on the spit. The road goes through the range. You couldn't go to or get out of Gavres when the range was in use. Commandos also trained in the dunes, so beach combing could get exciting.
