Fall : Fall 11 : Clipper Flight

The hardest thing to do is to catch a butterfly in flight. At the exhibit it was impossible as the butterflies were frantic and zoomed about the place. This is as close as I could get to flight. The Clipper (Parthenos sylvia) was actually on a flower but I angled the lens so that it appeared to be in flight.

Still, a difficult shot because most butterflies tend to hold their wings upright and together when standing still. Moths tend to rest their wings in this position. It's all about camouflage.
