Fall : Fall 2013 : Skirted Stinkhorn

I discovered this distinctive shroom near the Britannia Tennis Club. It is Dictyophora duplicata. Shrooms adapt to their environment to survive. The Stinkhorn is well named - it stinks like a rotting corpse. This attracts flies and other carrion insects who help disperse the shroom's spores. It grows is rich forest soil. Thus, the area where I found it is ideal. It has the rich soil and the sweaty elderly bodies on the tennis courts attract plenty of flies.
